The Toronto Star
LETTER, Friday, June 7, 1996, p. A24
Mark my words: semantic confusion will be the death of us. I refer to Conrad Black's statement (Star, May 31) that the secrecy surrounding the Bilderberg conference has "no other purpose than to allow leading citizens to speak their minds openly and freely."
What can be the meaning of the key words, "secrecy" and "openly"? The immediate interpretation must be that secrecy is openness. This gives me a headache. One wonders if this will be prophetic of the new Blackian news-speak.
